The Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which plays a pivotal role in regulating a wide range of physiological processes that affect our metabolism, stress, how we experience pain, our intestinal fortitude, our energy level, blood pressure/sugar, and much more.
The ECS affects just about every aspect of our health and well being, with ECS receptors located in the brain, the skin, and every other organ in the body; the immune cells, and reproductive organs. The ECS regulates, modulates and affects every major system in the body including the central nervous system, the endocrine system, the GI tract, and our immune system.
We use cannabinoids from the plant when our body is imbalanced – similar to taking a vitamin. CBD and THC can help with inflammation, neuroprotection, stress recovery, immune balance, depression and anxiety. The Endocannabinoid System produces at least two cannabinoids that mimic THC and CBD:
#1: THC – the cannabinoid that gets you high (the body makes anandamide – ‘runner’s high’, endorphins, and dopamine)
#2: CBD – affects the brain but doesn’t create a high (the body makes 2-Arachidonyl glycerol, otherwise known as 2-AG) 2-AG is found in breast milk and modulates (turns on/off) almost 2,000 gene expressions. THC modulates under 50. As you can see, CBD does most of the work in the Endocannabinoid System.
